Danny & The Champions of the World: You Don’t Know (So Recordings 08/08/2011)

70s atmospheric rock revival attempting with a nod and a wink at Bruce Springsteen treads a well-used path. The use of crisp femme backing leaves the track in no man’s land, between rugged rock and pop coated indie, ‘You Don’t Know (My Heart Is In The Right Place)’. Everything builds towards the repetition of the song-title for the chorus, but it fails to have required punchiness in the delivery to warrant this approach.

Singer and leader of the project, Danny Wilson comes across as sincere enough. Although, there is no real belief or feeling in his vocals to give the song the needed potency to keep rock fans happy and, the indie fans will have heard this too many times before to be too interested. More belief is needed if Danny & The Champions of the World are to successfully make the crossover into rock territory.
